Michigan State has made the top schools list for several blue-chip prospects over the past couple of weeks and the momentum has officially carried over into Wednesday.
Jaydn Jenkins, Jaxson Davis, and Joshua Tyson all listed Michigan State on their trimmed lists recently and included the Spartans. One more top target has been added to that list of recruits who named Michigan State as a finalist.
Antonio Pemberton, a recently-offered (July 12) point guard, just trimmed his list to eight schools and Michigan State was one of three Big Ten teams to make the final cut.

Michigan State, Ohio State, and UCLA are the three Big Ten teams still in the running for Pemberton who just trimmed his list to eight. He also listed Tennessee, Kansas, Creighton, Boston College, and Marquette. UCLA, Kansas, and Ohio State are the schools that have offered after Michigan State and he also received scholarships from Michigan, Washington, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Alabama over the past month but they didn’t make the cut.
Tom Izzo has to feel good about where he stands with the No. 33 recruit in the country considering Pemberton raved about Michigan State and the Hall of Fame coach shortly after the offer.
Michigan State made up some serious ground in his recruitment despite offering just a couple of weeks ago. It took Izzo just two weeks to forge a relationship with the No. 8 point guard in the 2027 recruiting class and make his top eight.
Tom still has his fastball, folks.
Tom Izzo is closing in on several 2027 targets
Like I said earlier, Izzo has made the cut for several top targets in the 2027 class, and here’s where those guys all rank according to 247Sports:
- Jaxson Davis, 4-star (No. 35 overall, No. 10 PG) — final 6 schools
- Joshua Tyson, 4-star (No. 55 overall, No. 10 CG) — final 6 schools
- Jaydn Jenkins, 4-star (No. 42 overall, No. 6 C) — final 5 schools
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Asa Montgomery, Jayon Connor, or Aaron Britt Jr. named Michigan State in their top schools soon, but Izzo is making moves with some elite targets.
It felt like the 2027 class was off to a slow start with very few public targets named, but Izzo has been putting in serious work over the past month to get offers out and add to his big board.
To me, an ideal class would be Pemberton (or Davis), Montgomery, and Jenkins. A man can dream.
