Cam Edwards had to feel the love from Michigan State fans when he attended Monday’s basketball game against USC.

The UConn transfer was being courted by the entire coaching staff and potential future teammates like Alessio Milivojevic, and both Fitzgerald and the Spartans’ QB1 had the crowd hype him up while they were leaving the floor after a win.

Walking off the court after taking a Big Ten basketball game in with Fitzgerald’s arm around him and a Big Ten QB1 pointing toward him to make the crowd hype him up had to make him feel like he was on top of the world. All signs were pointing to him becoming the next Spartan RB1.

One day after the 5-year anniversary of Kenneth Walker III’s commitment, Edwards made it official and committed to Michigan State.

Edwards had plenty of options in the transfer portal, but he decided to pick the program that Fitzgerald promised would be on the come-up. The new head coach sold Michigan State to him, and he will likely come to East Lansing as the team’s projected RB1.

I mean, why wouldn’t he be?

Cam Edwards, RB1

First, let’s start with some Edwards highlights.

The junior running back just had his best season as a collegiate running back, totaling over 1,400 yards and 16 touchdowns — 1,240 yards and 15 touchdowns came on the ground. He sliced and diced defenses to the tune of 5.9 yards per carry and he had six 100-yard games in 2025.

Edwards started the season hot with three 100-yard performances in the first four games and then ended with three straight 100-yard games. He scored at least one touchdown in all but two games in 2025.

Watching his highlights and seeing his career numbers, it’s clear that Edwards has what it takes to succeed in the Big Ten.

He has a Big Ten-type frame for a running back, standing 5-foot-11 and 210 pounds, and possessing both vision and elusiveness that Michigan State fans haven’t seen since Nate Carter. The only difference? Carter didn’t get a ton of help from his offensive line, and Pat Fitzgerald is making sure that’s not a problem for Edwards.

I’m not going to say he’s the next Kenneth Walker III, but Edwards has a ton of potential and committing five years and one day after K9 is a good sign.
