With the 2025 season approaching, Jonathan Smith and Michigan State football are beginning to organize official and unofficial visits throughout the year before the 2026 class is finalized.

The 2026 class is filling up quickly, and with limited spots left, Smith is already looking ahead to the 2027 and 2028 cycles, extending new offers consistently. He has to make the state of Michigan a focus in the upcoming classes because that's how you sustain success at Michigan State. Land a good chunk of the state's top recruits, and you'll likely have a job for as long as you want -- just ask Mark Dantonio.

Smith has done a solid job of recruiting the state, but he's already getting a head start on the 2028 class, offering borderline top-100 recruit Mylan Griggs back in June.

Fast forward to August, and Griggs is already planning an unofficial visit to East Lansing.

According to Corey Robinson of 247Sports, Griggs will be on campus for a game this fall. He holds offers from the likes of Michigan, Miami, USC, and Michigan State, among others. Keep in mind, this is very early in his recruiting process, so don't be surprised if he's one of the most sought-after top-100 players in the 2028 class.

Griggs is currently ranked the No. 101 overall recruit in the 2028 class as well as the No. 20 wide receiver and No. 4 recruit from the state of Michigan, per 247Sports.

Courtney Hawkins has a chance to land another elite receiver, and he'll have a great pitch for him when he visits this fall: come to Michigan State and be part of one of the best receiver rooms in the Big Ten, and the country. The Spartans have three legitimate Biletnikoff Award contenders (I'm counting Nick Marsh even though he didn't make the watch list), and also guys like Rod Bullard and Evan Boyd on the depth chart.

Griggs would be a heck of an addition to the receiver room in the future.
