It's been a while since Michigan State football was on commit watch and with Kory Amachree likely headed to Kansas on Friday, that wait is going to live on.
Official visit season is almost upon us, however, and that could change things. The Spartans haven't received a commitment in its 2026 class since February and Jonathan Smith needs to work relentlessly on that as the rest of the Big Ten has secured key commitments since then.
Michigan State is falling behind, ranked No. 61 in the 2026 class with just four pledges.
On Thursday, however, a new potential commit watch candidate presented himself and even announced a commitment date of July 11. Three-star cornerback Devonte Anderson from Winter Garden, Fla., just posted his top eight schools on Thursday which included Michigan State.
Anderson is still considering Louisville, Rutgers, UCF, Auburn, Maryland, Michigan State, Miami, and Iowa. This is an interesting top schools list but it's one that Michigan State should feel relatively good about as the Spartans have won recruiting battles against each of them (seemingly) over the past few years. Unfortunately, the Spartans had the least on-field success of the group last year despite beating Maryland and Iowa.
The three-star from Florida does hold 34 offers but programs like Florida, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kansas, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Pitt, West Virginia, and Wisconsin didn't make the cut. That's a solid offer sheet for a three-star.
Anderson is ranked the No. 876 overall recruit in the class and he's the No. 72 cornerback, according to the 247Sports Composite. He has an official visit to Michigan State planned for June 20.
