Michigan State football loses a 2025 commit to Big Ten foe
Just a couple of days after their toughest loss of the season, Jonathan Smith and Michigan State football received some tough news on Monday evening.
Rumors had been swirling about a Spartan commit leaning toward flipping to another Big Ten school and a crystal ball on 247Sports even alluded to that over the weekend. Some hoped it was just a rumor, but that speculation was only confirmed to be true on Monday night.
According to his own X account, three-star tight end commit Emmett Bork flipped his commitment from Michigan State to home-state Wisconsin.
This is definitely a tough loss for the Spartans but it's not crushing because Jayden Savoury is still in the class and he's actually a higher-ranked tight end, according to the 247Sports Composite. In fact, Bork is ranked as the No. 68 tight end in the country and Savoury is No. 41 so it feels like the Spartans lost depth and still kept talent.
Brian Wozniak is also not hurting for tight ends at the moment. Along with bringing in Savoury next season, the tight ends coach will likely have Jack Velling, Michael Masunas, Brennan Parachek, and Wyatt Hook ready to go. The depth is astounding and will be fine for a while.
This does mean that he likely has to start looking toward the 2026 class for a top-tier tight end to replace the depth piece lost to Wisconsin in the 2025 cycle.
In the end, you can't really blame Bork for deciding to stay home and play for the school he grew up watching and rooting for. He got that Wisconsin offer and jumped on it.
Both sides will be just fine.
