If you're looking for something to keep you busy over the next 24, or so, hours until Michigan State football kicks off against Western Michigan, the creative team dropped Episode 1 of 'This is State' on YouTube, and it's a must-watch.
Earlier last week, Michigan State hinted at the release of a 'Hard Knocks'-like YouTube series that will follow the football team throughout the season.
The first episode aired on Wednesday night, and it didn't disappoint.
If you're looking to watch the whole thing, it's a little under 18 minutes, and it dives deep into season preparation. You'll get to hear from Jonathan Smith, some of the equipment staff members who don't normall get a ton of love, and the team captains who speak about what it means to lead Michigan State football.
Overall, I thought this was a really cool concept, and it was put together really well. The only issue I have with 'This is State' is the fact that it's only 17 minutes long. Obviously there are other projects that the creative team needs to work on that come first, but this is a series that could legitimately take off if it were 20-30 minutes long every week.
It was cool to see what the equipment staff has to do behind the scenes from cleaning footballs to stickering helmets to setting up practice drills. It was also interesting to see Smith sit down and talk to the cameras much like a 'Hard Knocks'-type show.
The first episode was great, and now that the Spartans are going to have a game under their belts when the next one comes out, I'm expecting even more.
The creative team needs a raise immediately.
