Six games into the 2025 season, it feels like Michigan State football is crumbling. Jonathan Smith is on the hot seat, the team has lost three straight games, and recruits are beginning to decommit.

The sky might not be falling because Indiana has shown a program can be turned around in a hurry, but there’s definitely a panic with the current state of affairs. The program needs to be turned in the right direction in a hurry to avoid losing more key recruits and, potentially, star players.

After losing two top recruits last week in four-stars Braylon Hodge and Tyren Wortham, Michigan State is in danger of losing yet another four-star.

On Monday, four-star wideout Samson Gash revealed that he would be taking an official visit to Alabama, according to Steve Wilton’s of On3.

As if that wasn’t enough, Gash quote tweeted it with an elephant emoji, signaling that he’s open to the possibility of becoming a member of the Crimson Tide. Will Alabama take him? That’s a different story, but it looks like Gash might be shopping around after a horrendous weekend for MSU.

What made matters even worse is that his younger brother was one of the biggest visitors on campus for the UCLA game, and the 2027 four-star could follow Samson’s footsteps.

It’s never a good sign when your top recruits are shopping around mid-season, but it’s even worse when that recruit is the younger brother of a current player. That doesn’t exactly give the current coaching staff a ringing endorsement.

This season has gone from bad to worse for Smith and the Spartans.
