Michigan State football in serious danger of losing 2025 CB recruit
About an hour before reports broke about the supposed departure of Demetrice Martin to UCLA, Michigan State football commit LaRue Zamorano posted a cryptic tweet.
The 2025 three-star from California posted this, which caused some speculation.
The rumors were swirling already about Martin's departure and some were hoping that they remained just that: rumors. But they became reports and Zamorano's tweet about decisions made a little more sense. And now it feels like he, too, might be on the move.
Reports surfaced earlier on Monday that Martin was entertaining an offer from UCLA to coach the defensive backs and be the passing game coordinator and it didn't take long for them to be confirmed and for him to officially be on the move. He reportedly wanted to be back to his actual home and not just his alma mater to be around family.
With that move, Michigan State might be losing one of its top 2025 defensive back commits as Zamorano could follow his future position coach's lead.
The three-star cornerback from Corona, Calif., is ranked the No. 588 overall recruit and 49th-best cornerback in the 2025 class. He has great size at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds and I wouldn't be shocked to see Martin get the green light to offer him at UCLA. He could stay home and play for the coach he originally committed to back in July.
This could also impact other commits, including the 2027 defensive back that committed to the Spartans on Sunday. Tustin, Calif., Khalil Terry picked the Spartans over the likes of Tennessee, Nebraska, Louisville, Utah, and Washington, among others, to be Michigan State's first 2027 commit. Could that change now?
If Michigan State is lucky, the only loss from the Martin fallout will be Zamorano. If the Spartans are really lucky, they'll keep Zamorano. I wouldn't be too optimistic, though.
