It didn't take long, but one day into game week, and Michigan State football has already announced a program departure.
The Spartans are preparing to face Western Michigan on Friday night and all the focus has turned to that season opener, but a team spokesperson came out and revealed that a depth piece along the offensive line is no longer with the program.
That lineman is Brighton, Mich., product Hayden Lorius.
Per an MSU Spokesperson, reserve OL Hayden Lorius is no longer with the program.

Lorius is one of the depth pieces along the offensive line, but obviously judging by this move, he wasn't in that playing group of "nine or 10" guys who could compete for starting snaps. Jonathan Smith has said repeatedly that the offensive line has great depth and 9-10 guys are competing for starting jobs still, and that might lead to the guys who aren't competing to transfer.
This wasn't a name that was mentioned in that playing group this preseason nor was Lorius standing out to the coaching staff, from their own words, but he was also entering just his second season with the program.
The Brighton-native came to Michigan State with the 2024 class and redshirted a year ago. He partook in spring activities and was with the team to begin fall camp, but it seems as if he's going to look for a better opportunity to play elsewhere.
Not a massive loss, if you're talking about guys who will contribute this year, but that does hurt the depth on the offensive line slightly. I still think this group is incredibly deep and set up nicely.
Let's hope the rest of the team stays intact.
