We’ve already covered which players are going to remain with Michigan State football despite the coaching change this past week, but now it’s time to track who is leaving the program.
The Spartans are losing some key players to the transfer portal already, but some important Spartans have announced that they’re staying like Alessio Milivojevic, Brady Pretzlaff, and Martin Connington. They will likely get more key players to return, but getting the QB1 back is important and Pat Fitzgerald has to be thrilled with that development.
Michigan State has already seen some attrition in the 2026 recruiting class, too. That was already happening when Jonathan Smith was still in charge. Braylon Hodge and Tyren Wortham, two of the highest-ranked Spartan commits, decommitted earlier this fall.
During the early signing period, Michigan State lost Jordan Vann, Christopher Knauls Jr., and Fateimau Siale after Fitzgerald was announced as the next head coach. There’s also a chance that Michigan State loses four-star receiver Samson Gash to West Virginia or Alabama — two schools he’s been rumored to be talking heavily with.
As for the current roster, it’ll be important for Fitzgerald to hit the portal hard over the next couple of months to fill out his roster, and it’s also crucial that he retains some key players.
Who should Michigan State bring back? I would argue that the most important player has already announced his return, but getting some receivers back, key players on the offensive line, a couple of young running backs, a couple of tight ends, and a whole lot of defensive help would be nice.
Now, let’s see who has officially announced their transfers to and from Michigan State.
