New Michigan State athletic director J Batt hopped on the Locked On Spartans podcast on Wednesday and provided fans with an inside look into the athletic department.
While Batt didn't give a ton of detail as to what he's been working on (for obvious reasons), he did provide fans with a hint. He said that we should look toward the sky on Friday night when talking about new game-day experiences. He said that we would see, and hear, it.
Fans immediately jumped to the fireworks conclusion. It was rumored throughout the offseason, and now it looks like it's coming to fruition.
Batt's words had everyone predicting that fireworks would be displayed in some way on Friday night as Jonathan Smith's football team kicks off the 2025 season against Western Michigan.
But nothing was set in stone.
That seems to have changed as of Thursday morning as the official Michigan State Athletics Twitter account posted a preview of what to expect on game-day, hinting that "we're not done yet" with a fireworks emoji and the video ended with green and white fireworks.
We’ve been working on improving your gameday experience all summer.

OK, this is no longer speculation, it's confirmed: Michigan State will have a fireworks display of some sort on Friday night to celebrate the first game of the season.
It's a great time for fireworks, too, seeing as it's Labor Day weekend and many fans are going to have small children with them as they take in a game before going up north for a weekend holiday vacation. This is a great addition to the game-day experience.
The next question is: do the fireworks go off before, during, or after the game?
