Michigan State’s 2027 class has officially grown by one after the first official visit weekend.

Some Spartan fans were growing restless over the fact that there was no news from the first official visit weekend of the summer and Pat Fitzgerald responded with his famous “Pat Signal” on Twitter.

After teasing the commitment on Tuesday night, three-star linebacker Matthew Brady made it official on Wednesday afternoon.

This isn’t the most highly-touted recruit in the class, but Brady is a solid linebacker and had some pretty good offers. He was even supposed to visit Nebraska this weekend and Illinois the weekend after, so Fitzgerald closed the deal before he took his other officials which is huge.

The Bloomington, Ill., product also held offers from Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Northwestern, and a slew of MAC programs. Not the craziest offer sheet, but not too bad.

It’s also good to see that Fitzgerald still has some pull in the state of Illinois, swiping a three-star linebacker right from Bret Beilema’s backyard. If he had gotten to that Illinois official visit, I think there’s at least a decent chance that Bielema would’ve been able to persuade him.

Brady is ranked the No. 1,360 overall recruit in the 2027 class. He’s also the No. 122 linebacker in the nation. Again, not the most sought-after recruit, but he’ll fit Fitzgerald’s system well.

Max Bullough is starting to cook with gas

Max Bullough lost a top linebacker target over the weekend in Rome Ewell to Houston and he decided to make up for that with the commitment of a Midwest-based linebacker who was being pursued by a couple of Big Ten programs.

The co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach also got a top linebacker who happens to be committed to Notre Dame on campus this past weekend.

Amarri Irvin, son of Spartan running back legend Sedrick Irvin, was on campus over the weekend after committing to Bullough while he was still at Notre Dame back in November. He’s a four-star recruit ranked in the top 300 nationally and that would be one of the biggest moves in the class if Michigan State were able to pull off the flip.

Bullough is starting to heat up and I think we’ll see more talented linebacker recruits buy into what he’s selling soon.
