Michigan State basketball officially has a new five-star in its 2026 recruiting class.
After a 247Sports Composite update, Jasiah Jervis has jumped up to five-star status. He leaped Illinois five-star Quentin Coleman as the No. 4 shooting guard in the country and he’s now the No. 26 overall recruit. This makes him one of 27 five-stars in the 2026 class which is long overdue considering he was a McDonald’s All-American and received a ton of hype nationally.
Contrary to Michigan State football recruits, Tom Izzo and the basketball program are often given the benefit of the doubt. Recruiting experts trust Izzo’s talent evaluation more than most.
Jervis is a guy who’s going to have to play big minutes as a true freshman, especially after Divine Ugochukwu hit the transfer portal on Wednesday. He’ll slide right into that shooting guard role as either a starter or backup behind Jordan Scott, but Jervis will be too good to keep off the floor.
With this recent recruiting rankings update, Michigan State now has two top-30 composite signees in the 2026 class and Carlos Medlock Jr. (47) makes it three in the top 50.
Michigan State’s fourth commit, four-star power forward Julius Avent, is ranked No. 84 nationally.
As expected, however, Jervis is going to come in as the highest-ranked recruit in Michigan State’s class and the excitement level for him at the potential starting two spot is through the roof.
Michigan State’s SG spot has suddenly become a strength
After looking at the two-guard spot as a weakness throughout the entire 2025-26 season, it’s now looking like arguably the biggest strength on the team.
Izzo now has a Max Christie comp (Scott), a sharpshooter (Kur Teng), and a five-star McDonald’s All-American at the shooting guard spot. What a difference a year is going to make. I think you have to go Scott as the starting two to begin the year and then slide him over to the three when Jervis comes in to give either Kaleb Glenn or Coen Carr a breather.
The possibilities at the two and three are endless with the depth that Michigan State has.
