For a second straight offseason, Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball are bringing in two transfer portal players. This time, it's Kaleb Glenn (FAU) and Trey Fort (Samford) joining the mix.
Last year, it was Frankie Fidler and Szymon Zapala that transferred to Michigan State.
Izzo has received a ton of harsh criticism (most of it unfair) from fans pertaining to transfer portal inaction, but he has been active this cycle, landing two guys in the quietest way possible. No one even knew the Spartans were showing interest in Fort or Glenn until they were essentially committed.
The transfer portal has closed so no new entrants can make their way into the fold, so that means 247Sports released its final and updated list of the top transfers in the country.
Surprisingly, both incoming Spartan transfers made the top 100.
According to the new rankings, Kaleb Glenn is ranked No. 83 and Trey Fort is No. 85. They're both just ahead of Malik Moore at No. 86 who was considered a top Spartan target earlier on. They're also both ahead of the two Spartan transfers who appeared in the top 200 in Tre Holloman (No. 113) and Xavier Booker (No. 185). Not too shabby.
From all accounts, it feels like Michigan State upgraded some of its roster this offseason despite losing Holloman and Jase Richardson earlier than expected -- and Izzo isn't done yet.
If Izzo can go out and land five-star combo guard Darius Adams over Tennessee and Alabama, I think the Spartans will have one of the top three rosters in the Big Ten next year with skilled depth at every position. That's a big 'if', though.
