Recruiting has been the talk of the town for Michigan State basketball ever since Carlos Medlock Jr. committed to the Spartans over the summer, and Tom Izzo has only built momentum since then.

Since that commitment from Medlock, the Spartans have landed four-star power forward Julius Avent, and they’re near — or at — the top of the list for five-stars Ethan Taylor and Maximo Adams as well as four-star shooting guard Jasiah Jervis.

Izzo is recruiting at an elite level, and he could end up with a top-five class before it’s all said and done in 2026. He’s right there for three of the top 35 prospects in the country.

On Wednesday morning, Joe Tipton of On3 posted a paywall link that says “Michigan State building momentum for top-25 recruit”, and that really could only be two guys.

Who is this mystery top-25 recruit? It has to be either Maximo Adams or Ethan Taylor.

According to On3’s 2026 class rankings, Taylor is the No. 25 recruit in the class while Adams slides in at No. 23. Adams is the No. 11 small forward and Taylor is the No. 2 center.

If we’re just going by recent trends, this likely means that the article is about Taylor. The five-star center (according to 247Sports) was just in East Lansing for Midnight Madness and the Izzone Campout and told the media after the visit that it was unlike anything he had ever experienced before.

Oh, and then he canceled his final official visit to Kentucky.

Michigan State should feel good about where it sits with Taylor as he draws nearer to a decision.
