Michigan State adds another top-60 PG to its 2027 recruiting board

Tom Izzo is determined to find himself an elite point guard in the 2027 class.

Michigan State has already extended a handful of offers to top-60 point guards, and that list is growing by the week. The Spartans had already made the top schools lists of Joshua Tyson and Jaxson Davis, but it looks like Izzo is avoiding the “all the eggs in one basket” method of recruiting that burns coaches all the time.

Izzo has already offered Davis, Tyson, and Antonio Pemberton, but he just added another top-60 point guard to his list.

On Tuesday, Izzo extended an offer to four-star point guard Aaron Britt Jr. from The Villages, Fla.

Starting to sense a theme in this recruiting class? It’s pretty obvious that Michigan State is looking to get one of the top 10-15 point guards in what feels like a point guard-loaded class at the top. Britt is ranked as the No. 53 player in the nation and yet he’s just the 14th-best point guard. That’s a heavy percentage of points in the top 60.

The 6-foot-0, 190-pound point guard from Florida holds nearly 30 offers from the likes of Kansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Cincinnati, but his only scheduled official visits this fall so far are to Marquette and Butler.

If Michigan State really wants Britt, I feel like this is a recruitment that Izzo should win.

Could Tom Izzo be looking at a two-point guard class?

Michigan State doesn’t have a ton of offers out in its 2027 class so far, but out of the eight reported offers on 247Sports, four of them are point guards or combo guards. I’m not counting Kingston Thomas because he looks like a pure shooting guard.

Still, it’s obvious that Izzo is looking to add an elite point guard to the upcoming class because he expects Jeremy Fears Jr. to take the NBA leap after the season.

There’s always a chance that Fears could opt to return for one more season after this, but it doesn’t seem all that likely considering he almost left a couple months ago. It’s better to be safe than sorry, so he’s making sure that if Fears does leave, Carlos Medlock Jr. has some help. That could be in the form a two point guards or in the best-case scenario, a point guard and a combo guard.

I think it’s likely that Izzo targets two guys who could play point in his 2027 class because he would only have one guy returning to run point if Fears did leave.

Judging by all these offers to top-60 guards, I’m going to assume that he wants to bolster that backcourt with multiple additions. Adding a point guard and a combo guard seems most likely.

Whatever he decides, I’m loving all these new guard offers.
