Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza are new teammates with the Las Vegas Raiders after they signed the former Michigan State quarterback this offseason and drafted the national title-winning Indiana gunslinger No. 1 overall.
The pairing is actually perfect.
Cousins isn’t quite the quarterback he used to be, but he’s hoping for one final career run in Las Vegas with the bottom-dwelling Raiders. He’s hoping to turn them around.
The former Michigan State QB1 was also aiming to do the same with the Atlanta Falcons, but the fit there just wasn’t quite right. He was eventually replaced by first-round quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and now he’s going to be teaming up with another rookie poised to take his job.
This time around, however, the rookie is giving major Cousins vibes. The two are very similar in the way they don’t party, they’re unproblematic, I’ve never heard either of them swear, and they’re more likely to be building a lego set and watching a movie on Friday nights rather than go out to the club and make questionable decisions.
Vegas has leaned into that a bit and it helped them create one of the best schedule release videos in the NFL on Thursday. The two acted out their own version of “Step Brothers” for the release video and it caught everyone’s attention.
This video rocks.

THIS IS AN ALL-TIME GREAT CASTING JOB.

Incredible video, but the best part has to be the beginning where they each give themselves nicknames like “Kirko Chainz” and “The Nandolorian”. Incredible script, great cheesy acting, and tribute to one of the best Will Ferrell movies of all time. It’s also funnier when you realize that the storyline of ‘Step Brothers’ is two new step brothers who hate each other at first and then become best friends.
Also, credit to both guys for being such good sports knowing that they’re both fighting for the same job ahead of the 2026 season.
I had a feeling that Kirk was going to take Fernando under his wing and reall help him develop into one of the best quarterbacks in the league. And in a strange way, this video made me believe that even more.
“Kirko Chainz” might have a future in acting.
Kirk Cousins has had a roller-coaster past few years
Cousins hasn’t been quite the same player since tearing his Achilles in Week 8 of the 2023 season. The then-Vikings quarterback saw his Minnesota career come to an abrupt end after six years after passing for over 22,000 yards and 171 touchdowns. He was also off to an incredible start to his final season with the Vikings, passing for 2,331 yards and 18 touchdowns in eight games.
The Falcons signed him to a deal ahead of the 2024 season where he was expected to be the clear QB1 until Penix was drafted. Cousins was a little surprised by the first-round pick and although he got off to a nice start to his Falcons stint, he was replaced by Penix.
Cousins started 22 games over two years and went 12-10 with 5,229 yards and 28 touchdowns which doesn’t seem all that bad until you look at his 21 interceptions.
At the age of 38 when the season starts, Cousins will be looking to bounce back from a shaky stint in Atlanta and prove that he still has something left in the tank with the Raiders. He’s going to have a first-round pick breathing down his neck, however.
