Kirk Cousins has been linked to the Raiders for several weeks and today both sides made it official with the former Spartan standout signing a five-year, $172 million contract in writing that breaks down to a one-year deal with $20 million in guarantees. The Falcons will be on the hook for nearly $9 million of that guaranteed money.

Unlike Cousins' disastrous final two years in Atlanta, there are no questions about his role in Las Vegas. The 37-year-old quarterback is likely going to play early and mentor Fernando Mendoza to help the Heisman Trophy winner adjust to the pro game.

NFL media generally like Kirk Cousins' fit with Las Vegas

When Cousins signs a contract, there are always a ton of opinions and this time is no different. FS1's Nick Wright said that the addition of Cousins gives the Raiders stability and if Mendoza has a similar career, it's probably an "above average outcome for a No. 1 pick."

"When you have a No. 1 pick of the draft, you hope for Hall of Fame, MVPs, Super Bowls, but I think that [Cousins] is a really good fit," Wright said. "It's a guy who had a lot of success for multiple teams coming in and mentoring him."

ESPN's Mina Kimes says that Cousins' familiarity with coach Klint Kubiak from their days together with the Vikings will allow the Raiders to stay competitive on offense while Mendoza gets acclimated to the league and the system.

"[Mendoza] hasn't done a lot of the things that a lot of the things that Kubiak wants him to do — play under center and throw over the middle of the field," Kimes said. "It's something that Kirk Cousins has done forever. It makes sense to bring him in so you can onboard Mendoza slowly."

Fans have praise for Kirk Cousins' agent and also have jokes

Cousins' agent, Mike McCartney, is a legendary figure in sports because of his ability to get Cousins some amazing contracts valued at over $300 million in guaranteed money. He deserves his flowers and fans are happy to give them to him.

Fans also love the idea of Cousins and Mendoza, two very clean-cut, likable guys, on the same team at the same time.
