In the final minutes of a 38-27 heartbreaking loss at Nebraska on Saturday, cameras flashed to the Michigan State sidelines only to see starting quarterback Aidan Chiles and WR1 Nick Marsh getting into a heated discussion.

Fans immediately took to social media to voice their worries about the interaction, and there was nothing brought up in the post-game interview with Jonathan Smith.

Whether Smith was aware of the interaction while it was happening is uncertain, but he did address the heated discussion between two of his best players on Monday.

And he seems to think everything will be just fine.

Smith said that “those guys love each other” and that the staff is trying to find a way to get his rep count to continue to go up. He also hinted that we should see that on Saturday against UCLA.

Long story short, this was just an instance of two competitors who hate to lose passionately verbalizing their frustrations. It boiled over into what looked like a heated disagreement between the two which was surprising since both seem to be even-keeled and hold their emotions in check for the most part. In my opinion, this was a good thing.

If anything, this showed that these guys want to win more than anything and they’re sick of losing games that they have not only been in, but held the lead in.

Michigan State had that win in its grasp only to cough the lead up in the second half thanks to some avoidable mistakes and coaching shortcomings, and Marsh and Chiles let their frustrations get the best of them. It happens.

I do think this will lead to good things for the offense moving forward.
