After wrapping up his redshirt freshman season with Michigan State, Jeremy Fears Jr. entered the offseason knowing exactly what he needs to work on in order to become that next elite point guard to come through East Lansing.
Fears needed to work on his jumper which was a major weakness in 2024-25 and it allowed defenders to sag off him and it dared him to shoot. He also needed to get that elite athleticism back.
In the middle of his freshman season in 2023-24, Fears went home for the holiday break and took a gunshot to the leg which ended his first year and he had to learn to walk again. Now that he has the basics down as a top tier playmaker and floor general, he needs to hone in on the skills that will set him apart from the rest of the point guards in the Big Ten.
Well, it looks like he's already doing that.
Fears' dad posted a highlight reel of his workouts this week (presumably working on with his brother during the NBA Draft process) and it looks like Fears has been working on that jumper and he has his bounce back less than two years after learning how to walk again.
If this video doesn't get you excited, I don't know what will.
Fears not only has the bounce necessary to keep defenders on their toes, but he's also looking more comfortable shooting the ball and it's effective. His shot looks confident and he has great form. That's a facet of his game that could truly make him an All-Big Ten first-teamer in 2025-26.
A confident, more explosive, plus-shooting Fears is better than anyone Tom Izzo could've gotten in the transfer portal.
