With the 2026 NBA Draft in the rearview mirror, it may be just a tad early to be thinking about next year’s draft since it’s about 365 days away, but Michigan State fans are hungry for a Tom Izzo revenge tour after he’s been taking a thrashing from rival fans all week for not having a draftee.
Well, it looks like rival fans will only have ammo for a year.
Jeremy Fears has already been projected as a second-rounder in the 2027 NBA Draft, but that’s not going to be quite enough to silence the doubters. Jasiah Jervis could change that.
According to one NBA draft expert, Jervis is a top-10 prospect in the 2027 draft class.
Jervis is the most anticipated incoming Spartan freshman from the loaded 2026 class and this won’t be the only time we see the talented shooting guard from New York in early NBA draft projections and on big boards. Michigan State fans are excited to have a shooting guard who could become that go-to scorer that was missing last year and that everyone hoped Trey Fort would be.
It is wild to think that Jervis could be a top-10 NBA draft prospect when he’s the No. 31 recruit in the 2026 class. I’m not going to doubt anyone who hypes up Spartan players and who studies this stuff for a living. If a draft expert believes Jervis is a top-10 prospect, I’ll buy stock in it.
Jasiah Jervis is Tom Izzo’s best chance to end the lottery drought
The last time that Michigan State had a player selected in the lottery was all the way back in 2018 when both Jaren Jackson Jr. and Miles Bridges went in the top 12. Before that, it was Denzel Valentine who was selected in the last lottery position.
Jervis may just be Izzo’s best chance to end that soon-to-be nine-year drought.
There have been a couple of guys who I believed could end that drought and one just got drafted in the first round last year by the Orlando Magic. If not for being measured smaller than he was listed, Jase Richardson likely goes in the top 14 a year ago. He was supposed to be somewhere in the 15-25 range and he did, but it was closer to 25 than 15.
The other Spartan who I believed had lottery talent was Max Christie. The one-and-done shooting guard would have 100 percent benefitted from another season in East Lansing but he decided to leave Izzo a little early. If Christie stays two years, he’s a lottery pick. Unfortunately, he left after one somewhat underwhelming season and fell to the second round.
Two shooting guards who were good enough to go in the lottery but who fell? It sounds like Jervis needs to avenge them.
