For years now, the depth -- or lack thereof -- of Michigan State football has left a lot to be desired.
The Spartans are no strangers to injury issues and the depth has been tested heavily over the past few seasons. Unfortunately, that lack of quality depth has led to three straight bowl-less seasons and 14 total wins over the last three years. It's been a drought that we haven't quite seen since before the Mark Dantonio era and it's one that needs to end immediately.
In order for Michigan State to get back into the Big Ten title conversation, it needs to recruit at a high level, retain key players, and build depth that will lead to very little drop-off in production.
According to Jalen Thompson, Michigan State may have covered the latter heading into 2025.

Thompson hinted that the team's depth is impressive and "you don't feel much of a difference" when the ones, twos, or threes are on the field. That's something that hasn't been said at Michigan State in what feels like a decade and that could lead to a more consistent showing this year.
Often times, Michigan State suffers serious injuries and the replacements just don't get the job done because they're not quite Big Ten-caliber players (or just not ready yet) deep on the depth chart.
Now, it sounds like Michigan State won't have to worry if they suffer an injury or two to some key guys because there will be at least 1-2 guys ready to take his place.
Obviously we need to see it before we believe it, but the team seems to be confident in what it has.
