How much time is left for the lone Michigan State football QB in the NFL?
By Kaleb Kraus
Kirk Cousins has had a memorable career, from high school to Michigan State football to the NFL. His recent struggles in the midst of his first season with the Atlanta Falcons certainly isn't going unnoticed across the NFL.
Less we all forget he was on pace for a historic season in 2023, then with the Minnesota Vikings when he blew his achilles, and was lost for the season. Following the injury it was clear Kirk saw the writing on the wall in Minneapolis.
So he went to the Falcons this past offseason. After a 6-3 start, things have really fallen off a cliff these past several weeks. Since beating Dallas on Nov. 3, with a 222-yard, three-touchdown performance, Cousins has really struggled.
Not only have his Falcons lost each of the last four games, Cousins has thrown zero touchdowns and eight interceptions in that span. I'm not one of those people who like degrade Kirk, nor have I ever been against him. He's the banner carrier for MSU at the quarterback spot in the NFL.
We had one guy drafted since Cousins at that spot in 2012. That was Connor Cook in 2016, and look at how quickly he washed out of the league. Cousins is in year 13 of his NFL career, but the numbers these last several games haven't been great.
I'm not saying the Spartan legend is done, and from what it appears the Falcons coach doesn't think so either. After an ugly loss in his return to Minnesota this past weekend, head coach Raheem Morris stood by his quarterback, according to ESPN's Marc Raimondi.
It's far from the end for Cousins, but it does make me wonder when Michigan State will ever get another quarterback in the NFL. It has been to long since we've produced a pro quarterback. It's time the Spartans change that.
