Unfortunately, another tally has hit the loss column for Michigan State football following a disappointing home performance against No. 13 Indiana on Saturday.
The Spartans raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and it felt like we might just see an upset in East Lansing, but Indiana turned up the heat and scored 47 unanswered points to win 47-10. That's right, a double-digit first-quarter lead disappeared so fast and so aggressively that Michigan State ended up losing by five touchdowns.
Unacceptable.
But Michigan State has some time to look at the film (or burn it) and fix the problems that plagued them against the Hoosiers. They will have a bye week before heading to Champaign in Week 12 to face an Illinois team that was just knocked out of the rankings.
The kickoff time for this important road game was announced on Monday afternoon and it's (finally) not a night game away from home.
The Spartans will be on the road against Illinois in two weeks for a matinee matchup against the Fighting Illini. The kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m. ET which is different than any kickoff time this season and it gives Michigan State and Illinois really its own time slot. The game will also be broadcast on FS1.
This is the perfect matchup for Michigan State to bounce back and prove that the Indiana loss was an extreme outlier and it's much better than what it's showed over the past two weeks.
Jonathan Smith's last bye week was followed by a nice home win over Iowa and I could see this team coming out refreshed on Nov. 16 to beat a solid Illinois team.
