Fights in sports happen every now and then. When tensions rise and players get heated, it's common to see some aggression expressed in a way that's not exactly constructive. It's even rarer when it happens between teammates.
But that's exactly what happened on Saturday evening when former Spartan Simeon Barrow and Miami freshman defensive end Marquise Lightfoot got into an argument on the sidelines.
There was some sort of miscommunication between the two Miami defensive linemen following a drive and Lightfoot was visibly upset on the sidelines, talking to a teammate. Barrow walked up and must have said something that set the freshman off because the conversation got a little more heated.
Barrow pushed Lightfoot and the freshman responded with a punch that the former Spartan somehow dodged. The two players had to be separated before it got out of control.
This was obviously a bad look for the entire Hurricanes team, but especially for Barrow who should be keeping his cool in those situations. He's a veteran player and he has to know how to keep his cool when a freshman is losing his. Fortunately, a massive scuffle was avoided, but this is the last thing you want to see from your team during a bowl game.
The Pop-Tarts Bowl has been an offensive onslought and that's probably why the defenders are all frustrated. The score at halftime was 31-28 in favor of Miami, so you can see there haven't been many defensive stops. Barrow needs to be a leader in this situation instead of losing his head.
Let's hope amends were made at halftime.
