Makhi Frazier has been a hot commodity since entering the transfer portal last month, but the former Michigan State running back has reportedly found a new home.
The Spartans’ former starting running back entered the portal after leading Michigan State in rushing with 520 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He was productive behind a pretty ineffective offensive line that had an All-Big Ten center, and then not much else outside of that — other than Conner Moore and Luka Vincic, who are both back.
We could talk all day about the lackluster Spartan offensive line from the 2025 season, but that wouldn’t be good for any of us.
Instead, we’ll talk about Frazier having essentially his pick of the College Football Playoff contenders litter. He visited Indiana and Ohio State prior to this past weekend’s visit to Ole Miss.
Frazier didn’t waste much time committing to the Rebels after his visit.

The soon-to-be sophomore is officially headed to an SEC College Football Playoff participant, picking Ole Miss over Ohio State and Indiana, among several other interested programs.
This isn’t the first time Ole Miss has poached a Spartan running back. A few years back, Kedrick Reescano committed to Mel Tucker and Michigan State, but Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss came calling and flipped him before signing day. He never ended up recording any carries with Ole Miss and has since transferred to Arizona, but it feels like he could’ve been a star in East Lansing.
Ole Miss will give another Spartan a shot.
Michigan State’s backfield will be just fine
Fortunately, Pat Fitzgerald has addressed the backfield several times this offseason. He got Zion Gist and Brandon Tullis and, at least it seems, Jace Clarizio to return for the 2026 season. On top of returning three talented young backs, the Spartans picked up three running backs from the portal.
Jaziun Patterson transferred in from Iowa, Marvin Parrish comes in from Western Kentucky, and UConn transfer Cam Edwards is projected to be the team’s lead back.
New running backs coach Devon Spalding is going to have plenty of options to work with even though the backfield did lose a rusher that was drawing interest from some of the nation’s top programs. With an improved offensive line, the Spartans will finally have a run game with a pulse.
