It feels like the longer former Michigan State running back Makhi Frazier is in the transfer portal, the more interest he receives from elite programs.

Frazier was Michigan State’s RB1 this past season, and although he missed a few games, he rushed for 520 yards and two touchdowns behind a fairly mediocre offensive line. Considering that last part, his 4.5 yards per carry mark was actually impressive.

The redshirt freshman had just seven carries the previous season, and he was able to retain his redshirt because he didn’t see the field enough.

Now, he’s looking for a new home with a new coaching staff in charge back in East Lansing. He was one of the first Spartans to enter the transfer portal, and he’s received a ton of interest from college football’s top contenders.

Frazier has already visited programs like Indiana and Ohio State, but now he’s headed to SEC territory.

On Sunday, Frazier will reportedly be in Oxford, visiting Ole Miss who also made it to the College Football Playoff, just like his previous two visits.

Frazier is going to have his pick of whatever College Football Playoff participant from this past season that he wants, at this rate. He could end up on one of the Big Ten’s top two teams in 2025, or he could wind up at Ole Miss which will be looking to regroup after losing Lane Kiffin to LSU.

Michigan State has done more than enough to replace Makhi Frazier

Losing Frazier hurt when it initially happened, but almost the second after the transfer portal opened, Pat Fitzgerald addressed that void in the backfield.

Fitzgerald landed star UConn running back transfer Cam Edwards who had over 1,200 rushing yards in 2025 before also picking up Jaziun Patterson from Iowa and Marvis Parrish from Western Kentucky. Brandon Tullis and Zion Gist are also returning, and with no public word about Jace Clarizio, it looks like he’ll also be back. Not many backfields are 5-6 players deep, but Michigan State is going to have a ton of depth, especially with H-back Carson Gulker coming in, in 2026.

The good old days of ‘pound, green, pound’ are back, folks.
