It's been interesting to watch former Michigan State players during preseason ball to see if any of them can make the case to make 53-man NFL rosters.
We're obviously going to see guys like Kirk Cousins, Bryce Baringer, Jayden Reed, Kenneth Walker III, Jalen Nailor, and Jack Conklin make NFL rosters this year, but there are a handful of others who will be fighting for spots on the 53-man like Joe Bachie, Nate Carter, and Ameer Speed, to name a few.
Well, it looks like Speed has become the latest Spartan to be waived by an NFL team, joining Montorie Foster Jr. who was waived by the Seahawks just last week.
The #Bears have signed RB Brittain Brown and Waived/Injured DB Ameer Speed.

Speed has spent the past two seasons fighting for a roster spot and he hasn't had much luck after being drafted by Bill Belichick and the New England Patiots in 2023. It felt like the best possible spot for Speed because Belichick loves his special teamers, and that's where he saw the Spartan defensive back spending most of his time.
Unfortunately, he was dealt in the middle of the year and played eight games for the Indianapolis Colts. He totaled nine tackles in 13 games in 2023 with the Colts and Patriots, but hasn't made a 53-man roster since.
The third-year defensive back out of Michigan State (by way of Georgia) was hoping to get that chance with the Chicago Bears, but it looks like that dream has come to an end with this news.
Speed will now hope to make a practice squad and then earn his way onto an active roster during the season, but if he's injured, that's going to be easier said than done.
