On a night when Carson Cooper decided to come back to Holt High School to support his former Michigan State teammates after appearing in his first NBA Summer League, he wasn’t even the top storyline.
Tre Holloman stole the show on Tuesday, and not just because he scored 26 points in a surprise appearance during Moneyball’s return following a one-week postponement. He came back as a competitor while Cooper was just there to watch and hang out with the fans and former teammates.
There were probably mixed feelings in the building regarding Holloman’s return to Moneyball, especially with how he left the Michigan State program last offseason.
Fans put some harsh feelings aside to welcome the former fan favorite turned villain back.
Holloman came, didn’t cause any problems, scored an easy 26 points, and spoke to the media afterward about his current plans and his relationship with Michigan State.
Unfortunately for his haters, he still calls Michigan State home.

Holloman did also reveal a huge life milestone, sharing that he recently had a daughter and is now living in the Lansing area after his first NBA Summer League. He’s also involved in the lawsuit of players who are seeking a fifth year of eligibility from the NCAA.
I’m not sure how that’s going to go because the track record for lawsuits like these don’t usually go very well for the player. However, the new five-in-five year may change things.
Imagine a world where he and Jaxon Kohler both come back and Michigan State has to beat both in next year’s NCAA Tournament to advance to a Final Four. OK, I’m getting way ahead of myself.
Contrary to popular belief, Tom Izzo is a forgiving coach
How many coaches would lose a player to the transfer portal in shocking fashion after seemingly loving his time with the program for three years and then welcome them “home” with open arms?
Izzo has essentially done just that with Holloman. He burned Izzo last offseason, transferring suddenly to NC State to play for Will Wade and he even took a shot at his former coach. After a really good early-season performance, Holloman posted that he was able to have a big game because he now has a coach that believes in him.
Those feelings were obviously in the heat of the moment and the former Spartan has had time to think about his decision. He knows he made a mistake and Izzo has alluded to that conversation being had between the two, but he has to live with it.
Izzo has clearly forgiven Holloman because the ex-Spartan says they talk all the time.
Maybe Tom will get him to join the coaching staff as a grad assistant while he attempts to further his playing career.
