Tom Izzo and Michigan State have extended another offer to an elite 2027 point guard.
The Spartans have been shopping for point guards in the 2027 class over the past couple of months and they added another one to the big board. The elite guards have been offered over the past few weeks by Izzo and the Spartans, starting with four-star combo guard Joshua Tyson and followed by four-star point guard Jaxson Davis and then the latest offer came over the weekend.
On Sunday night, Izzo offered top-40 point guard Antonio Pemberton from Massachusetts. He’s now the latest guard to receive that coveted offer from Izzo and his resume is resonating with these high school juniors.
Like the two point guard prospects before him who were offered over the past two weeks, Pemberton cited the fact that Izzo has developed NBA talent and “a lot of good guards” while also saying that “it’s a blessing” to hear the Hall of Famer praise his game.

"(Izzo) has coached a lot of NBA players and a lot of good guards, so it's a blessing hearing him say that he thinks I'm pretty good."

Three straight guards have been offered and each of them has praised Izzo and his impressive track record of developing guards into NBA draft picks.
In fact, he just did that with Jase Richardson a season ago and many believe that both Jasiah Jervis and Jeremy Fears Jr. are the next in line to jet off to the NBA after learning under Izzo. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Jordan Scott also join that lineage of talented Spartan guards to eventually play in the NBA.
The No. 1 player from Massachusetts is currently a Utah lean, per his 247Sports profile, but with the blue bloods starting to get involved, I don’t see that holding up.
Auburn, Michigan State, UCLA, and Kansas have all offered in the past month.
Tom Izzo might need to worry about size
If Pemberton were to commit to Michigan State, I think that would give the Spartans one of the most positive point guard outlooks in college basketball for the foreseeable future, but at some point, Izzo needs to start to worry about the size of his ones.
Fears is an exception because he plays bigger than his size and his aggressiveness makes him a difficult guard and he doesn’t back down from defensive assignments.
However, Carlos Medlock Jr. has a much smaller frame, standing just 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds while Pemberton is just 6-foot-1 and 165 pounds. There’s still plenty of time for both guards to fill out, but Medlock isn’t going to get much taller, if at all, and Pemberton would be the “biggest” point guard on the roster at 6-foot-1. In the Big Ten, that could be a problem.
A lot of teams have been dabbling with some size at point guard, but Izzo may just continue the trend of smaller ones.
If all the smaller guards are as talented as Fears, Medlock, and Pemberton, size won’t matter much at all. But there’s a part of my brain that’s stuck on the fact that 6-foot-0, 175-pound Foster Loyer was bullied at the position when he got to Michigan State because of his size.
Fortunately, these guards are a little more talented that Loyer was.
