It's been a long, winding road of a Michigan State football career for veteran linebacker Darius Snow. He started his career as a four-star safety from Texas and earned major playing time as a sophomore for Mel Tucker in 2021.
Then, in 2022, he suffered a major injury in the first game and missed the rest of the season. Since then, he has played a total of 16 games and hasn't looked quite like the breakout star we saw in 2021.
Snow got back some of that mojo in 2024 under Jonathan Smith, recording 29 tackles and a tackle for loss in 12 games but with some big pieces on the defensive side of the ball moving on, there may be an opportunity for him to end his career on a high note should he decide to return for one final season.
And on Thursday, that's what he announced.
The son of Michigan State basketball legend Eric Snow announced that he has a lot he can still achieve and the best opportunity for him is to return to East Lansing. This, to me, means that he had a conversation with Smith and Joe Rossi and they both decided that he is going to be a major piece to the turnaround puzzle in 2025.
Hopefully Snow can get back to the form we saw in 2021 when he had 87 tackles, six tackles for loss, an interception, and two pass breakups. If we get that version of Snow, this defense will be in good hands.
Still, it's good to have a leader and linebacker, and former safety, with starting experience back to help lead the young guys and potentially play himself onto an NFL roster in 2026.
