Tom Izzo got one of his Plan A targets about a week and a half ago and Carlos Medlock Jr. is already proving that the Hall of Famer struck gold.
While he's received praise from NBA people, recruiting experts, and even former Spartan AJ Hoggard who has done nothing but hype up the point guard, he's also earning more.
Medlock did dominate at the recent Adidas 3SSB with Izzo in attendance, averaging over 21 points per game and standing out as one of the best guards at the event. He's proven himself as one of the best point guards in the country, soaring in the rankings recently from three-star status to a four-star and now he's officially a top-100 prospect, coming in at No. 98 on 247Sports.
And that's probably still way too low.
Don't believe me? Just watch him show off at a recent open gym that included guys like Monte Morris, Pierre Brooks, Romeo Weems, and five-star Arkansas freshman Darius Acuff.

Medlock clearly fits right in with some big names. He looked like he belonged on the same court as an NBA guard, a couple of former college stars (and a former Spartan) as well as a five-star incoming point guard in Acuff who was an Izzo target early in the 2025 recruiting process.
The four-star from Link Academy in Missouri seems to always be working on his game and he looks like a pure scorer at the point guard position. He looks to be cut from the same cloth as Kalin Lucas.
Michigan State fans should get excited for this kid. He's going to be special.
