Anyone who was unlucky enough to watch Saturday’s Michigan State football game against UCLA came away with some harsh takes regarding the state of the program.

Branden Dawson was one of those unlucky souls on Saturday.

The former Michigan State basketball star shared his thoughts on the state of the program while watching the 38-13 beatdown by UCLA. He was just as disgusted as the rest of us.

The original tweet is how we all felt while watching a lifeless Jonathan Smith-coached team lost at home in its last truly favorable game of the season, falling by 25 points. No one was happy and essentially everyone with a functioning set of eyeballs wanted change immediately.

Dawson didn’t mince words in his quote tweet. He called the state of the program “a disgrace”.

And he’s not wrong.

Michigan State fans deserve much better than this, especially after losing Mark Dantonio to sudden retirement after two mediocre years to end his impressive tenure and then going through the roll-coaster of the Mel Tucker era. There hasn’t been much hope around this program for the past 5-6 years, and that’s unacceptable for one of the more storied programs in college football.

This is a top 25 program and it’s currently not acting like one.

Dawson is like all of us. We think that the program has become unrecognizable over the past few years. Watching Michigan State fade into irrelevance has been tough. And Saturday felt like rock-bottom.

There has to be some sort of change or the spiral will only continue.
