When a team has a bad season and it looks like they might fire their head coach, other schools come along and try to pick apart the recruiting class like vultures. For Michigan State football, that’s been happening for the past month.
Ever since Michigan State lost at Nebraska, the Spartans have been losing some momentum on the recruiting trail, and that has a lot to do with Jonathan Smith’s hot seat.
Four-stars Tyren Wortham (receiver) and Braylon Hodge (linebacker) decommitted from Michigan State in the nightmare of a month that was October, leaving the Spartans with just three four-star commits: Samson Gash, Collin Campbell, and Kaye Coffman.
One of those guys is seemingly in danger of flipping.
Gash has been shopping around for a couple of weeks now, even scheduling an official visit with Alabama, but now he has another potential suitor: Wisconsin.
Blessed to receive my 18th offer from Wisconsin!🦡⚪️🔴 @CoachReid_ @CoachFick @jcessante @AllenTrieu @TheD_Zone @adamgorney @GregSmithRivals @SWiltfong_ pic.twitter.com/8ZV9KjUyHc

That’s right, the corpse that is Wisconsin football is trying to pry Michigan State’s top receiver commit from its hands. Luke Fickell is giving one last-ditch effort to save his job (unlikely).
While I don’t see Gash flipping to another program with head coach question marks, I do think that Smith and Co. are going to have a hard time trying to keep him in the green and white. There’s a serious market for Gash right now, and Michigan State is hemorrhaging commits.
Gash is shopping around, two four-stars have decommitted, and the rest of the class could be up for grabs if, and when, Smith is let go.
We are in dangerous territory.
