Another 4-star DL target cancels Michigan State official for SEC trip

This is the third four-star defensive lineman to cancel an MSU visit.

Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald has the most four-star visitors on campus since the Mel Tucker era but he could have had three more.

The Spartans had some big-time visitors scheduled along the defensive line, but two had already cancelled their visits and now a third who was supposed to be on campus this weekend joined the bad news brigade.

Nehemiah Ombati, the No. 374 recruit in the 2027 class, had an official visit scheduled to East Lansing for May 29, but he’s apparently visiting an SEC program this weekend instead.

According to his 247Sports profile, Ombati is in Columbia this weekend for an official visit with Missouri which leads me to believe that the Tigers are a favorite to land him.

I don’t see Michigan State rescheduling this visit, much like Marvin Nguetsop and Myles Smith. Those two were originally set to visit East Lansing this weekend but they decided to take trips elsewhere. Nguetsop was a longshot anyways but Smith really hurts because the Spartans plummeted out of his top schools list after originally being a top contender. He’s since committed to Indiana.

Don’t be surprised to hear that Ombati has committed to Missouri after this weekend’s official visit which took priority over his Michigan State visit. He will be at Nebraska next weekend.

Michigan State made his top three earlier in May, but it looks like he may be down to just two.

Michigan State could be on commit watch with other 4-stars

While losing three four-star visitors in one weekend would crush a lot of coaching staffs, Fitzgerald was more than prepared and he added two last-minute four-star visitors.

Michigan State could very well be on commit watch with guys like Deontay Malone, who was supposed to visit Ohio State this weekend but switched it up for the Spartans, and Reinaldo Perez who happens to be yet another four-star defensive lineman. The Spartans will have four-star defensive line commit Ohimai Ozolua on campus next weekend.

I don’t see Anthony Cartwright committing before finishing his visits, but he’s on campus and is a four-star legacy recruit. Caleb Johnson is another name to watch, but some of college football’s elite are also after him.

Fitzgerald is going to land more four-stars to his 2027 class and that may very well happen this weekend. Jonathan Smith could never have this juiced-up of a recruiting weekend (apologies for the stray).
