On Monday night, four-star Michigan State basketball target Julius Avent announced that he would be making his college decision on Wednesday.

The four-star from New Jersey would be choosing between Seton Hall, Xavier, and Michigan State, and Spartan fans were optimistic that he would be joining the good guys’ 2026 class because Tom Izzo just made the trip out east to check in on him last week, along with Jasiah Jervis.

Helping the Spartans’ case, he was just on campus on Aug. 30 for an official visit, and he’s fresh off a trip to Xavier and hasn’t even visited his third finalist, Seton Hall, yet.

Right now, this looks like a tight battle, but there have been some hints and bread crumbs dropped throughout social media, leading me to believe that the Spartans are winning this recruitment.

One of the most connected college basketball recruiting gurus, Trilly Donovan on X, teased Spartan fans with a GIF of Tom Izzo smiling and adjusting his tie, which he usually does before Michigan State lands a recruit.

Trilly doesn’t usually post a GIF for a team ahead of a commitment unless he knows for sure what’s coming, and with Avent announcing on Wednesday, that makes the most sense. All signs are pointing to the four-star power forward from Oradell, N.J., becoming a Spartan on Wednesday.

While he wasn’t the top target on Spartan fans’ wish lists, he is one of the best power forwards in the country. He’s also probably not done rising in the national ranks.

Carlos Medlock Jr. and Avent would be a heck of a start to the 2026 class.
