Aidan Chiles career game, 2 other bold predictions for Michigan State vs. Iowa
The first half of the season went just about as planned for Michigan State, recording a 3-3 record and a split in the toss-up games against Boston College and Maryland. That makes Saturday night's Michigan State vs. Iowa game that much more important for Aidan Chiles and Co.
Starting the second half of the season strong under a first-year head coach is critical to the growth of the program. This game could either help make or break the final six games.
Chiles spoke to the media earlier this week and said that the slate has been wiped clean and the second half of the year is a new season. This is a chance for him to start fresh and put the eight interceptions from the first six games behind him.
Well, I think he'll do that against Iowa.
Here are my three boldest predictions for Saturday's game.
1. Nick Marsh has another 100-yard game
Getting an extra week to fully heal up will prove to be just what Nick Marsh needed. Against one of the worst passing defenses in the Big Ten (yes, it's weird to say about Iowa), the talented freshman is going to break off another 100-yard game in Big Ten play (his second).
Marsh will be just what the offense needs on Saturday to move the ball against a usually-stingy defense. He's going to be a problem for the Iowa defensive backs.
2. Aidan Chiles has a career day
The first "career game" for Aidan Chiles was against Maryland in a Week 2 battle that no one expected the Spartans to win. He's going to have his second such game against an Iowa team that no one expects Michigan State to beat.
The talented sophomore is going to rise to the occasion and shake off the plentiful first-half-of-the-season turnovers.
Chiles is going to complete 70 percent of his passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns with no picks. Oh, and he'll run for another 40 yards. Yeah, I might be crazy.
3. Michigan State pulls off the upset
Vegas has Iowa as a 6-point favorite heading into this matchup which means that the Hawkeyes would be 8-9 point favorites if the game was played in Iowa City. But I don't think the sportsbooks are giving the Spartans enough love. They're playing at home right off a bye week against a fairly beatable opponent.
I believe Michigan State pulls off the upset on Saturday night and starts the second half of the season off on a really high note.
