Jonathan Smith might be in danger of losing another key 2026 class commit. The second-year Michigan State football coach is not only on the hot seat, but he's lost two key commits in the 2026 class already in Braylon Hodge and Tyren Wortham, two four-stars.
Now, it sounds like Smith could be on the verge of losing a third.
Samson Gash, a four-star wide receiver from Novi, Mich., has been in constant contact with another program, and he has an official visit scheduled for Nov. 8.
The program? Alabama.
Gash gave a rather concerning recruiting update this week, telling On3 that he's been hearing from Alabama essentially every day and the relationship is great because they're "true to their word".
4-star WR Samson Gash, a Michigan State commit, talks relationship with Alabama ahead of his OV on Nov. 8:

Gash looks like he could have a bright future in East Lansing, but for whatever reason (I'm guessing the state of the programs), he's looking to join Alabama and potentially play for a perennial national title contender instead of being part of a massive rebuild.
This isn't the first time Gash has flirted with Alabama. The Tide actually offered him three days before he committed to Michigan State. It felt like the door had closed on Alabama right there, but the Tide haven't stopped working and keeping in contact with the four-star receiver.
Is the offer to Alabama still committable? It seems like it is considering they've scheduled an official visit with him and have been in contact almost every day, so Smith has his work cut out.
The Spartans are going to have a tough time keeping any of their top commits this cycle given the fact that the program has taken a step back in year two of Smith.
