What. A. Win. Michigan State football shook off the normal post-bye week rust and downed a stingy Iowa team, 32-20. This just felt like the complete performance everyone was hoping for following a much-needed bye after a three-game losing streak.

Not only did Michigan State put up 32 points on an Iowa team known for its defense, but it also accounted for 468 total yards and had over 200 rushing yards, averaging 5.3 per carry.

This was just a statement win and Jonathan Smith won over a lot of Spartan fans on Saturday.

Here are some of my quick thoughts following the big win:

1. Jonathan Kim is a machine

Six field goals were made by Jonathan Kim. That's right, six field goals went through the uprights on Saturday night via the leg of Kim, missing a seventh attempt from 55 yards out that had the leg but just missed wide. He took that miss personally and went out in the second half and drilled a 55-yarder.

Coming into the game, Kim was 9-for-9 on field goals and now he's 15-for-16 and has to be in the conversation for the Lou Groza Award. This dude is unreal. He actually might not be human.

2. Aidan Chiles silenced a lot of doubters

Did Aidan Chiles have a turnover in this game? Yes, but he only got better after throwing a first-half interception. He avoided disaster and the defense didn't allow Iowa to score after the pick, so that turnover didn't hurt.

And all he did was throw for 256 yards and a touchdown on 22-of-30 completions. That's right, he completed 73 percent of his passes against Iowa and ran for another 50 yards, accounting for over 300 total on the day.

This team is much better when Chiles uses his legs.

Other than Kim, Chiles was the best player on the field.

3. This defense deserves some respect

While holding Iowa to 20 points isn't exactly a massive feat these days, holding the best running back in the Big Ten (arguably) under 100 yards is wildly impressive. Kaleb Johnson had been dominating Big Ten competition this season but the Spartans were the second team to hold him under 100 yards.

Other than a 75-yard touchdown run late in the game, Johnson had 13 carries for 23 yards. The Spartans were shutting him down until that late score.

And the secondary looked solid. They held Cade McNamara to just 11 completions on 23 attempts and picked him off once. This unit has been vastly improved from a year ago and Charles Brantley is living proof.

Joe Rossi, Demetrice Martin, and Co. did a fantastic job on Saturday night and the defense as a whole this season deserves more respect.
