3 bold predictions for Michigan State football vs. Rutgers
Michigan State football will be back in action on Saturday afternoon in East Lansing and the Spartans are playing Rutgers for their first bowl berth in three seasons.
The Spartans went 5-7 in 2022 and 4-8 last season after a New Year's Six berth in 2021 after going 11-2 on the back of Kenneth Walker III. It's been a disappointing downfall of the program over the past couple of years and that's why Michigan State is now on its second coach since Mark Dantonio retired after the 2019 season.
Rutgers isn't going to just roll over and let Michigan State make it to bowl season as Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights always seem to be ready for this matchup.
Let's get bold.
1. Aidan Chiles accounts for four total touchdowns
Over the past couple of games, Aidan Chiles has been clear of turnovers. He's had a couple of near-turnovers, but it's obvious that he's making better decisions and he's realized that taking a sack or trying to make something happen with his legs is better than turning the ball over by forcing a pass into coverage. He's maturing before our eyes.
And that progress is going to pay off on Saturday as he passes for three touchdowns and runs in another, accounting for 300 total yards as well.
2. Nick Marsh surpasses 100 yards - again
Nick Marsh has broken the 100-yard mark just twice this season which is surprising given the fact that he's broken essentially every freshman receiving record.
But he'll make it three 100-yard games on Saturday.
Marsh will feast on the Rutgers secondary and he'll catch eight passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns. His big game will be just what this team needed with a bowl berth on the line.
3. Michigan State gains bowl eligibility
A lot of experts are predicting Michigan State is going to lose on Saturday, but I'm confident that this team will take care of business at home for the fifth time this year and earn a bowl bid.
With Chiles and the offense playing well against the Scarlet Knights, I can see them leading from wire-to-wire en route to a 27-23 win in East Lansing. It'll be tight throughout, but Chiles arm and legs will be the difference.
