Quarterback

Man, did the quarterback room ever take a hit over the past two weeks. The Spartans ended the season with a blowout loss to Penn State and then Jonathan Smith was hired two days later. It didn’t take long for Katin Houser, Sam Leavitt, and Noah Kim to all enter their names into the portal.

Oh, and Henry Hasselbeck decommitted. That leaves the Spartans with exactly zero scholarship quarterbacks heading into the 2024 season.

These are the top two ideal transfers who could be the guy in 2024 and beyond.

  • Aidan Chiles, Oregon State

That’s right, the Spartans are after the No. 1 quarterback currently in the transfer portal in former top-100 recruit Aidan Chiles from Oregon State. He decommitted on Monday and all the signs are pointing to him joining his former head coach in East Lansing.

Chiles played in nine games this past season as a true freshman and had seven total touchdowns, no interceptions, and completed 68 percent of his passes. He’s going to be special.

  • Dante Moore, UCLA

There’s no chance Dante Moore would even consider the Spartans if Chiles committed, but if for some reason Chiles doesn’t commit to the green and white, he should be the top choice.

Moore was a five-star prospect out of Detroit in the 2023 class and he had a very up-and-down freshman season with the UCLA Bruins. He may honestly have been better off remaining committed to Oregon because he’d be Bo Nix’s replacement next year.

But early rumors have stated that Michigan State is a team to watch.
