2. The Spartans desperately need to get hot from deep

Watching Michigan State go 19-for-30 from the free throw line was disappointing, but watching it go 5-for-18 from deep was even worse.

The Spartans were just 12th in the Big Ten in 3-point shooting percentage heading into this one and shooting under 30 percent won’t help. This was supposed to be a game in which the Spartans got right against an 0-6 team at the Breslin after a short Thanksgiving break. That just didn’t happen as not even Tyson Walker could find his stroke from range.

The starters went a combined 3-for-12 from deep and the backups fared slightly better with a 2-for-6 mark. That needs to improve in a hurry as Big Ten play is on the horizon.

Guys like Walker, Jaden Akins, Tre Holloman, and maybe Malik Hall need to start heating up from long range or this might be a long season.
