Michigan State football: 5 head coaching candidates who have fallen off the radar
Listen, I was on the Charles Huff bandwagon as much as anyone and I still think he could be a good coach some day for a bigger program, but his season at Marshall has gone downhill in a hurry.
After starting 4-0 with a win over Virginia Tech, Marshall has lost five straight games. Much like the Jake Dickert hype, this has fizzled out quickly as his team as stumbled. Huff has lost five straight to the likes of NC State, Georgia State, James Madison, Coastal Carolina, and App State. Those are all decent teams, but it’s how he’s losing games that has MSU fans spooked off. His Thundering Herd have seen the offense disappear completely.
In fact, since that loss to NC State in which the Herd scored 41, they have a total of 48 points in their past four games. They haven’t scored in double figures since Oct. 14.
Michigan State fans have already seen an offense like that every single week, they don’t want it again in the form of a new coach. They want a coach who can actually piece together a solid offensive staff and not score a combined 24 points against James Madison, Coastal Carolina, and App State.
The hype around Huff has died down more than any other candidate and it’s a shame because I think he’ll be solid in the future somewhere else.
