Con: Not a long-term solution
As mentioned above, controversy follows Urban Meyer, meaning he doesn’t stay at one stop for long. It’s tough to continuously recruit when high school players and their parents don’t know if some “health issue” will come up during the season and Meyer has to resign. He was only at Florida for six seasons and Ohio State for seven despite all the winning that took place.
You would think that a university would want to keep a coach that could win a national championship in any given season and lock him up long term.
My personal preference? Give me five years of 10-11, even 12-13 wins and I’ll have those memories last me through the rough 5-10 years after he leaves.
Florida has been a mess since he left and while Ohio State, while winning plenty of games, hasn’t won the conference in two years, albeit lost to a team who will have their Big Ten titles vacated in due time.
