Michigan State Football: 3 attainable goals for the second half of 2023 season
3. Win four games
There are still four winnable games on the schedule and it starts with Rutgers. Statistically, they outplayed Maryland and Iowa and if they just clean up the mental mistakes, they can beat Rutgers (0-2 conference record), Minnesota (1-2 conference record), Nebraska (1-2 conference record), and Indiana (0-2 conference record). Winning one (1) against Michigan, Ohio State, or Penn State would be a great surprise but no one should get their hopes up.
Making a bowl game really isn’t about the extra practices as the coaching staff will be gutted the second the season ends, but more of a sign that the players didn’t give up, in spite of everything that has happened this season.
Even if a player is planning on transferring, it’s important to show other teams that you have good work ethic and are competitors when logic says it’s time to jump ship. It’s about pride in your school and the uniform you put on. If a player does plan on staying, put on good tape so the new coach doesn’t have to recruit a high school or transfer to take your place.
Get in the habit of winning the games you are supposed to win, and a competent coaching staff can get you in a place to upset those elite teams.
Last, but not least, win games for all the fans that put their hard earned money on the over 5.5 games. If Spartan fans have to endure yet another average season, at least be disappointed and rich.
