Charles Huff was my No. 1 candidate after last week as the Thundering Herd improved to 4-0 following an epic comeback against Old Dominion. Admittedly, I probably jumped the gun a bit and didn’t step back to realize that maybe Old Dominion never should’ve been up by that much in the first place, but Huff still led his team to a nice comeback win.

This week, he would be truly tested on the road against NC State.

Sure, this year’s NC State team is pretty average, at best, but any time a Group of Five team has a shot to upset a Power Five team, it’s impressive. And Marshall nearly did just that.

The Thundering Herd held a second-half lead but it dwindled and Huff’s team came out on the wrong end of a shootout, losing 48-41. The defense didn’t come to play, but the offense did.

I’m intrigued by his ability to recruit at his previous programs and Marshall is one of the best Group of Five teams in the country. If the Herd can win the Sun Belt, I’ll be all in.
