Speculation is running rampant among the Michigan State football fanbase regarding the next head coach of the Spartans.

Earlier this week, Alan Haller officially terminated Mel Tucker’s contract and the now-former head coach has alerted Michigan State of a potential wrongful termination lawsuit. While that mess is getting figured out by the athletic department and university lawyers, there are names being thrown around as potential head coaching candidates.

Some names are realistic and intriguing and others are unrealistic. There are also some wild names that would likely cause the fanbase to panic and then implode.

A handful of those names made a list compiled by Brett McMurphy on Thursday night.

Simply put, if this list is correct and these are the names Michigan State is seriously looking at, the Spartans could be in for a long rebuild.

Michigan State football fans deserve better

There are some good names on that list like Mike Elko and Charles Huff, but the rest are just names of coaches tied to the program and I have to believe that they’re not realistic.

Unless the source is someone inside the university, there’s no way guys like Dan Enos, Pat Narduzzi, and Mike Tressel are legitimate candidates. That’s not a knock on them as they all did plenty for the program, but they would not be great head coaching material in East Lansing.

If you’re anything like the majority of the fanbase when this list came out, you’re probably looking for reasons to debunk it. Hey, so am I.
