3. This is a winnable game

I know I said this last week, but I don’t think the Spartans were as bad against Maryland as the score indicated. The Spartans were able to move the ball and outgained Maryland’s offense in terms of yardage. They just need to stop making those drive-killing mistakes whether it be a dropped pass, interception, or something simple like a dumb penalty.

Iowa still has a stout defense, ranking better than Maryland in both passing yards and rushing yards allowed. I think a big key to the game will be the ability to get deep into Iowa territory where field goals will feel like a win given how points will be at a premium this week.

The real concern is if we trust Jay Johnson to call a Noah Kim-friendly game and it just hasn’t happened consistently enough through four weeks.

Defensively, their tight ends take the lion’s share of receptions and yards so I expect safeties and linebackers to be at full attention. With the wide receivers being an afterthought, I hope that our corners get a little bit of a break this week after facing massive pass-heavy schemes the last two weeks. Sell out to stop the run first, then wait for Cade McNamara and Co. to make the big mistake.
