2. Famous alumni

Like most universities, the most recognized names that come out of the University of Iowa are actors, most notably Ashton Kutcher (That 70s Show) Jake Johnson (New Girl), comedy legend Gene Wilder, and I would be remised if I didn’t mention Terry O’Quinn, who portrayed John Locke in the TV show LOST.

While not the most famous alumni, I found the most fascinating Iowa graduate to be Kent Norman,  a cognitive psychologist who is an expert in computer rage.

Anybody associated with college sports Twitter could use a good reading of his book Cyberpsychology: An Introduction to Human-Computer Interaction. He also taught courses about the same subject as well as the psychology of video games and the psychology of social networks and social computing at the University of Maryland. I’ve read some pretty awful things that people will say to each other behind a keyboard, but I can only imagine the things that this guy has seen in his studies.
