Michigan State football: 3 unrealistic head coaching candidates
A name that has floated around quite a bit that I think most fans would love is Urban Meyer. He’s a winner and probably a top-three college coach of all time.
However, I don’t see him reviving his coaching career in East Lansing.
No, this doesn’t mean that I view Michigan State as a bad job and a coach the caliber of Meyer would never look our way, but I don’t think he wants to take over a program that would be undergoing the rebuild that the Spartans have ahead of them. He would definitely speed that process up, but even one year of mediocre football could be enough to have him calling it quits for good.
Plus, he’ll be 60 years old by next football season and he won’t be wasting any time on a job that requires as much work as Michigan State might for the next couple of years.
Do I think Meyer may like what Michigan State could offer? Yes. Do I think he’s going to come out of retirement to try and construct a roster in the new NIL/portal era that he never got to experience? Not really.
I personally think Meyer would be the best-case scenario, but it’s also the most unrealistic.
